Brendan's primary responsibility is ensuring the club sets and meets its goals and objectives for the upcoming season. Brendan has been a mainstay on the committee of this great club since the 2019/20 season. He is a tireless worker and is always available to have a chat with players, sponsors, coaches, captains and the wider LOCC community.

He is a supportive leader, dedicated to improving junior and senior players alike. Wardy works hard to ensure the current and future health of the club is continually reaching high levels. He strives to ensure relationships within the club are maintained and nurtured all year round.

Here are some questions we asked Brendan to learn more about him:

Nickname: Wardy, Negative

What is your best childhood memory of playing cricket?
I think it would have to be growing up playing backyard cricket at my Grandparent’s place. Just spending every Saturday or Sunday arvo having a bowl and trying to smash the stumps (bin) and finally have a bat. The love of the game first developed there with my brother and the whole family. Memories I’ll have for the rest of my life.

Who is your favourite cricketer and why?
Michael Bevan. He could do it all, and he always held the belief that any game could be won and that reflected in his cricket. Should be an inspiration for all junior players on how to play the game across all facets of it. Technically superb, mentally resilient under pressure and always out thinking his opposition.

What is your most memorable match and why?
This is a tough one with no Grand Final wins, and plenty of painful GF and SF losses. Plenty of great memories behind some outrights, reverse outrights and close wins however the question is most memorable match, not the best so I’ll go with first ever game of Senior cricket. I’m feeling great after being picked in 7th Grade, full of confidence, well ahead of 8th Grade in my mind. It all came quickly crumbling down with a Duck with the bat, dropping 4 straight catches at deep square leg and Roysto not giving me a bowl in the 1st dig. Walked off the field extremely disappointed only for Mick O’Brien to pick up a ball and bat and proceed to hit 20 straight high catches without dropping one. At least I took a wicket in the 2nd innings. Cricket is a terrible game. Didn’t see 7th Grade again for another 2 seasons. Probably a good decision by the selectors on that. But it stands out as a key journey and lesson for me about my cricket and what this game is.

What do you love about the Magpie Family?
That at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter whether you play 1st Grade, 9th Grade, Women’s 2nd Grade, played 20 years ago, if you’re a Magpie everyone will always support, have a chat and have a drink with you. I might enjoy the game we play (sometimes debatable), but I enjoy it a lot more because of the people I take the field with and share a badge with.
